Brehms Lane Elementary School becomes BE’s Newest Charter School!

Posted October 21, 2016

As of July 1st, 2016, Brehms Lane Elementary School #231 has converted to a neighborhood public charter school operated by Afya Baltimore Inc. (ABI). Big changes have taken place at what is now called Brehms Lane Public Charter School:

  • Brehms Lane has a new principal, Ms. Diya Hafiz, formerly an Assistant Principal at Patterson Park Public Charter School.
  • The facility has had lots of work done outside and inside the building. The cupola, which was struck by lightning last year, is being repaired now with work to be completed by the middle of October. There is a new handicapped-accessible walkway in the front of the building, a new main office and renovated lobby, and fresh paint and repaired walls, floors and grounds throughout the campus.
  • Brehms Lane has a new logo, color scheme and uniform. Keep an eye out for kids around the neighborhood wearing the colorful school colors of blue, orange and yellow shirts with white stripes on the sleeve.
  • An after school program and a summer camp opportunity, run by Afya Baltimore Inc., are now offered.

Brehms Lane is interested in opportunities to partner with the community and encourages community members to stop by for a tour or event. Please contact the school if interested at 410-396-9150. Follow along with the school activities on Facebook @brehmslanepcs. (website coming soon)

Brehms Lane PCS joins the ABI family of Baltimore City public charter schools: Afya Public Charter School, a middle school in Belair-Edison, and Tunbridge Public Charter School, an elementary-middle school in Govans. ABI schools share the mission of teaching Baltimore’s children to live healthy, balanced lives: intellectually, physically and socially.
