Afya Baltimore is a new public Charter School opening in the fall of 2008. Afya is a middle school with a focus on health and wellness to be located behind the Shrine of the Little Flower right here in Belair-Edison.  The school is currently accepting applications for 6th grade. The Green School is a public Charter Elementary School that will moving in with Afya for the 2008 school year.  The school integrates environmental studies into all areas of its curriculum.  Please contact BENI at 410-485-8422 for more information. 

The Belair-Edison Community Association is an all-volunteer organization that addresses the needs of community members.  BENI and BECA collaborate on such issues as public safety and cleanliness, commercial development and zoning, and special events. Together, our neighborhood volunteers spruce up the community, watch out for one another, socialize, and take part in block improvement projects.

The Baltimore Homeownership Preservation Coalition formed to address the high number of home foreclosures in the city. The aim of this effort is to help families stay in their homes, which also strengthens the neighborhoods in which they live.

Baltimore Main Streets is a great place to do business!  Baltimore Main Streets provides customized support and public resources to designated neighborhood business districts.  Each Main Street organization works on a comprehensive strategy tailored to local needs and opportunities.

Herring Run Watershed Association 
HRWA works to improve our urban watershed by engaging citizens in learning about environmental issues and taking personal action for the preservation and restoration of the watershed. While they work in the entire watershed, HRWA pays special attention to their Baltimore home community of Belair-Edison, which they hope will become one of the greenest urban neighborhoods in Baltimore.

St. Ambrose has partnered with BENI and is renovating foreclosed properties throughout Belair-Edison.  Since its founding in 1968, St. Ambrose has been committed to providing innovative, comprehensive housing services and quality affordable homes to meet the challenges facing vulnerable homeowners and neighborhoods.
